In the course of the introduction of the second version of the intelligent tachograph (GEN2 V2 or Smart Tacho, Version 2), the EU Commission prescribed changes to the data structures of the digital tachographs as part of the EU Mobility Package 1. These are set out in Implementing Regulation EU 2021/1228.
This was aimed at achieving better working conditions, a level playing field and greater safety in road transport.
This new version 2 of the intelligent tachograph is referred to by Continental VDO as “DTCO 4.1” and by Stoneridge as “SE5000 Smart 2”. In accordance with Regulation (EU) 165/2014, technical changes have been made to meet the requirements for the tachograph. Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1228, which was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 30/07/2021 and entered into force on 19/08/2021, contains these amendments.
The Intelligent Tachograph Generation 2 Version 2 offers the following new functions:

What are the new features of GEN2 V2 tachographs compared to GEN2 V1?

• Automatic recording of border crossings, which helps the control authorities to verify the information regarding the route.</li
• Possibility of logging loading and unloading operations
• Doubling of the storage capacity from 28 to 56 days (mandatory from the end of 2024)
• The intelligent tachograph has the option of checking the authenticity of signals from the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) More data security and protection against cyber attacks by using the European Galileo signal (OSNMA) (not yet active at launch)
• The tachograph uses the secure radio transmission DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) for remote queries and now also provides information on driving time violations via this interface. This technology enables the enforcement authorities to check data from the tachograph for the purpose of pre-selection during roadside checks without having to stop the vehicle.</li
• All tachograph cards remain compatible with the new intelligent tachographs and can continue to be used until they expire. The cards of earlier versions will be replaced with GEN2 V2 cards after the expiry date using the usual renewal procedure.</li

Ab dem 21.08.2023 müssen alle neu zugelassenen Fahrzeuge innerhalb der EU mit dem neuen Fahrtenschreiber der Generation 2 Version 2 ausgestattet werden.

Bis 31.12.2024 müssen alle Fahrzeuge mit analogen oder digitalen Tachografen der 1. Generation im grenzüberschreitenden Verkehr mit mehr als 3,5t Gesamtgewicht auf einen GEN2 V2 umgerüstet sein. Die alten digitalen Tachografen GEN1 sowie analoge Tachografen sind nicht mehr erlaubt.

Bestandsfahrzeuge, die grenzüberschreitend eingesetzt werden und einen Tachografen der 1. Generation (GEN2 V1) besitzen, müssen bis August 2025 auf die neue Version GEN2 V2 umgerüstet werden.

Darüber hinaus wird ab Juli 2026 auch für Nutzfahrzeuge mit einem Gesamtgewicht zwischen 2,5 und 3,5 Tonnen, die grenzüberschreitend unterwegs sind, ein Tachograf (GEN2 V2) erforderlich sein.

Bereiten Sie sich schon jetzt auf die vorgeschriebenen Umrüstungen analoger und digitaler Tachografen (Anhang 1B) vor. Die Nachrüstung der 1. Generation intelligenter Tachografen muss bis 20. August 2025 vollzogen sein.

• Die neuen Datenstrukturen des Tachografen GEN2 V2 (Massenspeicher) sind mit älteren TachoPlus-Versionen nicht kompatibel. Daher müssen auch die Downloadlösungen, die zum Herunterladen von Daten vom Tachografen verwendet werden, wie beispielsweise Downloadkeys oder Downloadterminals aktualisiert werden. Die neue Fahrerkarte GEN2 V2 ist abwärtskompatibel mit älteren Tachografen, aber zum Auslesen der neuen Fahrerkarte ist ein Update auf TachoPlus Version 4 erforderlich.
